In addition to setting up this web site, in the
past two years the society has presented two exhibitions of its
members work, one at the Oxford Gallery in Woodstock and the
other at SCOLA, in Sutton. A photoshoot for members work was
organised with a professional photographer and post cards made from
the resultant images. The society produces a 12 page full colour
newsletter four times and year and subsidises subscriptions of this
newsletter to educational institutions. Workshops covering advanced
enamelling techniques have been run for members around the country.
Plans are in hand for future exhibitions, workshops, and events.
In the longer view, over its history the British
Society of Enamellers has organised many exhibitions and international
conferences about enamelling.
The primary objective of the society is to promote
excellence in British enamelling and professional enamellers working
in this country and abroad. The society also aims to keep members
and other interested bodies informed of all exhibitions and publications
of interest, including a close co-operation with other national
committees.
The society has compiled a slide index and catalogues of members
work for reference and promotion, which can be consulted and/or
hired by appointment. In addition, the society organises conferences
and exhibitions in this country and participation in exhibitions
abroad.
Full membership for professional enamellers resident
in Britain is by selection, with a strong emphasis on original design
in conjunction with an understanding of technical competence in
enamel as a medium, using qualities unique to enamel.
Associate membership is open to individuals and
groups in Britain and throughout the world who are interested in
the aims of the society, subject to the agreement of the selection
committee. Associates receive newsletters, information and invitations
to the societys functions, but are ineligible to vote, other
than for an Associate representative on the Executive Committee.
The Selection Committee meets at least once a
year, provided that applicants have indicated their intention to
apply by informing the secretary. Membership
