My intention is to liberate and explore the boundaries of enamel as an art form through investigating new methods of application and adaptations of traditional techniques. The aim is to consider the position and representation of enamel within contemporary crafts in endeavouring to reflect a message within my work that questions the assumptions of enamel and also reflects my own visual language.
I believe the creative process is about challenging yourself and your own ideas. To trust and explore the accidents and to be consciously influenced by your surroundings and the physical experience of making. To consider the nature of materials, to exploit and challenge the material. I am intrigued by that initial perception of viewing a piece of work and offering a message.
I am interested in offering a message within my work, which is a response to a site, or exterior location that also signifies and suggests a juxtapositioning of enamel as an art form. I am intrigued by the fusing of fine art and contemporary craft; an abstract form situated within a traditional practice. I constantly cross boundaries and interpretations to discover the new possibilities and potential of enamel.
