Based in the West Midlands, Rachel is a Designer Maker of contemporary silver
and fine enamel jewellery. Simplicity of design and the clarity of transparent enamel, using
the classic techniques of champlevé, basse taille and engine turning define her work. As an Enameller,
she has a continuing enjoyment of this demanding yet extremely satisfying lustrous medium, which
as a traditional craft dating back to ancient times still has great relevance today.
Inspiration comes from the compelling qualities of the enamel, along with a desire to
produce designs that promote those qualities. Sources from the natural world are frequently
drawn upon to create clean lines and smooth forms, which are combined with subtle texturing
under the surface of the enamel adding detail and depth to the colours.
Enamel is an inorganic compound consisting of a silica base, like glass, with metallic oxides
and salts to give the enamel its colour. It fuses to certain metals when heated to the correct
temperature. Transparent enamels allow the light to pass through them producing vibrant colours.
They also have a tactile silk-like quality making them appealing to the eye and a pleasure to wear.
The Collection includes ranges for both men and women, with special items for all occasions.
Commission work is undertaken, the most recent being for The Goldsmiths’ Company, who also added a piece
to their Permanent Collection.
Rachel has won several business and craft awards since setting up her own workshop in 1986
and exhibits her work regularly throughout the country in shops and galleries and at selective fairs. Rachel
has been a frequent exhibitor at the prestigious Goldsmiths’ Fair for over 12 years. All current details of
where her work is available are on her own website exhibitions page.

Rachel also runs enamelling classes from her workshop during the year. Details are
also featured on her website listing forthcoming dates. As a past and present Selector for various
art and craft organisations Rachel is a committed promoter of her discipline.
